Specialized HVAC Design for a Residential Therapy Pool

Creating a Comfortable, Controlled Environment

TemperaturePro Columbus partnered with Dwell Construction, the project’s general contractor, to help design and install a specialized HVAC system for a newly constructed residential pool house in Central Ohio.

The pool serves an especially important purpose for the family as a private therapy pool. That made maintaining a comfortable, healthy, and consistently controlled indoor environment a central part of the project.

An indoor pool presents challenges that a conventional residential HVAC system is not designed to address. Pool water continuously releases moisture into the air, creating high humidity that can cause condensation, affect occupant comfort, and eventually damage windows, finishes, equipment, and structural components.

A Purpose-Built Indoor Pool Solution

TemperaturePro worked closely with HVAC Solutions, a Central Ohio manufacturer’s representative specializing in dehumidification systems, to deliver a solution incorporating a Desert Aire ExpertAire LV05 dehumidification system and a custom-engineered FabricAir air-distribution system.

The Desert Aire ExpertAire system was designed specifically for the demanding conditions found in residential indoor-pool environments. Unlike conventional air-conditioning equipment, which primarily controls temperature, the ExpertAire system is engineered to manage both temperature and the significant moisture load created by an indoor pool.

The system removes excess moisture from the air and uses recovered heat to reheat the conditioned air when necessary. This allows it to continue dehumidifying without making the pool room uncomfortably cold. The system can also provide heating, cooling, and ventilation to maintain the desired indoor conditions throughout the year.

A matching Desert Aire remote condenser allows the system to reject excess heat outdoors when the pool room requires cooling, giving it the flexibility to respond to changing weather, pool use, and indoor conditions.

Engineered Air Distribution

Conditioning the air is only part of creating a successful indoor-pool environment. That air must also be distributed correctly throughout the room.

The custom FabricAir system uses engineered fabric ductwork to deliver consistent, even airflow across the space. The system can direct dry, conditioned air toward windows, walls, and other surfaces where condensation is most likely to develop.

Fabric ductwork is particularly well suited for pool environments because it is corrosion-resistant and will not rust like conventional exposed metal ductwork. It also provides quiet, draft-free air distribution and a clean appearance that complements the architecture of the finished pool house.

A Collaborative Approach

This project required close coordination among the general contractor, equipment and design specialists, and our installation team. Dwell Construction led the overall construction process, HVAC Solutions assisted with specialized equipment selection, and TemperaturePro Columbus installed and integrated the Desert Aire and FabricAir systems. The finished system provides:

Precise humidity and temperature control
Consistent, comfortable airflow throughout the pool house
Reduced condensation on windows and building surfaces
Protection against long-term effects of moisture and corrosion
Year-round heating, cooling, dehumidification, and ventilation
An air-distribution system that complements the room’s architectural design
